It's 2AM, Saturday morning. I am sitting here watching Dad taking every breath with lots of effort. The sound of his gargly inhalation and quiet exhaust is no match to Quoc's snoring. At times I actually had to look at Dad in order to figure out who is making which sound.
Tung attempted to go to sleep around midnight. With two people snoring a few feet away at a record-setting decibal that vibrates through the simulated hardwood floor. Tung showed signs of irritation. This is evident by watching Tung toss and turn about 5 times within a few minutes. Then the blanket that cover inghis entire body now becomes sound- proof ear muffs that covered his entire head. The blanket was wadded into a thick ball-like to covered his ears.
The night shift nurse came in and checked up on Dad. His temperature was 99.9 deg. at 210AM. I talked to her briefly. She is going to give him some Robinol (or something like that) to clear up his congestions. Another nurse came in with her to change him because he was wet.
Just about this time, Quoc stopped snoring. I think he snored so loud that he woke himself up. Then I walked over to check on Tung, he was still awake. Didn't surprise me.
I looked up and watched the nurses for a few minutes while they thend to Dad. I thought to myself "these guys love what they do...it's not just a job, it's a passion". Then came the tube insertion into Dad's throat. It looks so painful but I don't know if he can feel it. The first few insertions Dad slight reacted with hand movements. The last time, he coughed twice and opened his eyes for a few seconds. When he closed is eyes, I could see blinking movements under his eyelids. I hope he doesn't know what is going on and that he is painless.
Well, as hard as it is for me to say, but I truly hope he follows God to heaven right now (especially if he is experience any kind of pain). I think everyone has visited him, paid respect, and unsderstands that our unacceptable loss is inevitable. I also believe he ready and willing to go when God takes him.
May God take good care of him and let him watch over all of us from heaven.
